right i suppose this is where i describe my blog with grand words etc, but ill just keep it quite short - im not really good at blogging, i work mostly with pictures and like uploading 'inspirational' pictures for others to see...i apologize if the talking hasnt really happened here. id rather let a picture speak for itself.

Pictures for my 'Map of London' project

For the 'map of London' project I decided to make a map of MY London - meaning i'd take pictures of the places that have some kind of meaning to me. To make it a bit more interesting(or just more complicated) I chose to use Facebook and its 'tagging' system as part of it. So in this project ill use the places where ive been tagged, in order to make a kind of MY LONDON.

so first when i started thinking of HOW to map time, i imagined a picture of a tree, and how you can see the 'time lines'

obviously Salvador Dali and his famous clocks also popped up

James Thompson is the name of the artist for this map, which is his way of mapping his tube journeys. I like the abstract way.

Another quite interesting artist is Claire Morgan - she ' freezes' time in these slightly odd-looking installations. Really like it though, she uses a lot of dead animals which for some might be a bit weird but especially the installations with birds are amazing - they look really real.

This pictures is basically just a 'inspirational picture' for how to make something so normal as a clock, a little bit more interesting.

an idea I had was to make some kind of instillation with lots of clocks, to show the time. This dream had an abrupt ending when i walked in to a second hand shop and realized how much id have to pay in order to have enough clocks.

...a collage of various artist mapping times in different ways - there were for example one piece that had every cover from a certain magazine - so the whole map was the front cover of hundreds of magazines. Looked very abstract and cool though.

..one of the first pictures I took just to see whether the idea with the reflections on the wall would work at all or not. Well, it kind of did. Will take some new ones with more time and better space.

...not too good with this whole blogging thing to be honest. But my tutor kindly informed us that we need to try in order to get good grades so here we go - I have a feeling it'll be mostly slightly blurry and odd-looking pictures so bear with me.

-that's a new word I've learnt this month and it means "starting point" in the world of spatial design.

...which brings me to the fact that I've finally started my course in Interior and Spatial Design in Chelsea, and despite being here for only a month we've already done quite a lot; small one-week projects, alongside with our main design project, and extra lectures.

My favorite projects so far must be a one we did two weeks ago. It was a mapping project, and basically what they wanted us to do was to follow five people around our university, then map their way in different places and finally make a map from it. Well I had the idea of mapping feelings and emotions, rather than just make a map with their footsteps on it. Then we decided that it could be more interesting just to have a few places, and ask what feelings people felt in these particular places. We got emotions and feelings such as "stress","creativity","hunger", and many more so the whole thing got a lot more interesting.

When thinking about how exactly we could and should make a map, I came up with the idea of maybe using light. Reflections from a light source on the wall could be the map? So we decided that we would by carving out the same "outlines" (that would represent our university on the map) on a plain sheet of A3paper, then add the emotions each and every person felt in that space. That way we got four big sheets of paper, with the same "map", but with different emotions.

We put them together, and will later take pictures of our "map-lamp" with a light in it, so that the idea with the reflections on the wall can be seen and understood.
